Крепость Росс - Fort Ross
We've been to Fort Ross a couple of times now.
Mostly and most recently due to my mom's involvement in the construction of the traditional Russian windmill. It is in honor of the Russian settlements in northern California, having settled here in the 18th century to trade furs with the spaniards in san francisco. business hadn't grown, and the settlements dwindled; but this fort held shape and is now celebrated in its own right. The views ofcourse, are gorgeous.
Festivals are held here and many play dress up in honor of the large russian communities that were once here. Traditional baked goods, apple cider and piroshki are made, and songs are sun by locals. The canons are shot. All that good stuff.
